CLIMATE CHANGE DISCLOSURES BY THE BANK OF ENGLAND: A FRAMING ANALYSIS

The Bank of England, one of the leading actors in the financial sector both in the United Kingdom (the UK) and worldwide, is known for publishing its corporate disclosures on climate change. Whilst they are freely accessible on The Bank of England’s official website, there is insufficient research that investigates them from a qualitative perspective. Seeking to bridge the current gap, the article presents a qualitative study that aims to establish how The Bank of England frames the issue of climate change in its corporate disclosures. The study involved a corpus of The Bank of England’s disclosures on climate change that were published from 2020 to 2024. The corpus was analysed by means of a qualitative framing methodology. The results of the corpus analysis revealed that The Bank of England framed climate change as the frames An International Approach, The Bank of England’s Leading Role, Carbon Footprint Reduction, Carbon-Neutral Economy, Renewables, Risk, and Threat. The findings were discussed in conjunction with the prior studies on corporate discourse concerning climate change.

Książka obrazkowa oddając nierozerwalność warstwy ikonicznej i językowej w swej naturze, może znaleźć swoje miejsce na zajęciach z języka polskiego jako obcego. Wykorzystanie picturebooków w nauczaniu języka obcego wśród dzieci jest tematem szeroko badanym (szczególnie w badaniach dotyczących języka angielskiego). Badania dotyczące książek obrakowych dla dorosłego i dziecięcego odbiorcy w glottodydaktyce języka polskiego jako obcego otwierają nowe możliwości badawcze. Za przykłada posłużą w tym artykule dwa artefakty Iwony Chmielewskiej W kieszonce i O tych, którzy się rozwijali.

Autorka artykułu zaproponuje formy pracy ze wskazanymi picturebookami odpowiadające programom nauczania języka polskiego jako obcego, wskazując na rozwój sprawności językowych wśród dorosłych uczących się. Odwoła się do sposobów analiz książki obrazkowej i odniesień teoretycznych dotyczących zastosowania picturebooka w procesie nauczania języka obcego w świetle metodologii i rozwiązań dydaktycznych w glottodydaktyce (m.in. do metody przekładu intersemiotycznego oraz wielokanałowości przekazu i multisensorycznego odbioru czy metody Visual Thinking Strategies )

Wskaże również na bogactwo możliwości interpretacyjnych książek Iwony Chmielewskiej w świetle badań nad polskimi picturebookami.

The picture book, reflecting the inseparability of the iconic and linguistic layers in its nature, can find its place in Polish as a foreign language classes. The use of picturebooks in the teaching of a foreign language to children is a widely researched topic (especially in research on English). Research on picturebooks for adult and child audiences in the glottodidactics of Polish as a foreign language opens up new research possibilities. Two artefacts by Iwona Chmielewska, W kieszonce and O tych, którzy się rozwijali, will serve as examples in this article.

The author of the article will propose forms of work with the indicated picturebooks corresponding to the curricula for teaching Polish as a foreign language, pointing to the development of language skills among adult learners. She will refer to the ways of analysing the picturebook and theoretical references concerning the use of the picturebook in the process of teaching a foreign language in the light of methodology and didactic solutions in glottodidactics (among others, to the method of intersemiotic translation and multichannel transmission and multisensory reception or the Visual Thinking Strategies method).

She will also point to the richness of interpretative possibilities of Iwona Chmielewska's books in the light of research on Polish picturebooks.

Perfective negation in Crimean Tatar

This paper explores perfective negation in Crimean Tatar, focusing on participial constructions with -GAn and their interaction with negation, aspect, and nominalization. It highlights the hybrid nature of -GAn participles, which exhibit both verbal features, such as aspect marking and predicate formation, and nominal characteristics, including case marking and possessive agreement. Through detailed syntactic and morphological analysis, the study demonstrates how Crimean Tatar employs these constructions in negation strategies alongside finite forms marked by -mA. The findings reveal the flexibility of participial constructions, which can function as predicates, noun phrases, or modifiers, depending on context. This duality enriches the language’s system of negation and aspect, offering insights into patterns across categories.
